  • Ancestry.com: Subscription-based online platform that provides access to genealogical records and DNA testing services to help users research their family history and build family trees.

  • FamilySearch: Free genealogy website operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that offers access to historical records, family tree tools, and collaborative research features.

WIKI

  • FamilySearch WIKI: Free, online genealogical resource that provides user-contributed articles and guides on research methods, record types, and geographical areas to assist individuals in tracing their family history.

Government Records Entities

  • United States National Archives and Records Administration (NARA): Official repository and manager of all US federal government documents and records, preserving and providing public access to important historical materials and government information including census, military and immigration records.

  • United States Census Bureau: Conducts a decennial national census and other demographic surveys, collecting and maintaining extensive population data and records that are crucial for genealogical research, policy-making, and understanding historical and contemporary American society.

Web-Based With Primary Resources

  • Newspapers.com: Subscription-based online archive that provides digital access to millions of historical newspaper pages from the United States and beyond, allowing users to search and explore centuries of news articles, obituaries, and other published content.

  • Find-a-Grave: Free online database and community-driven website that allows users to search for, add, and manage memorial pages containing burial information, photographs, and biographical details of deceased individuals in cemeteries around the world.

Libraries, Archives, and Museums

  • United States Library of Congress: Houses extensive genealogy collections including local histories, family histories, digitized collections, photo and multimedia collections, and primary source materials, providing researchers with invaluable resources for tracing ancestral lineages and exploring American heritage.

  • Internet Archive: Non-profit digital library offering free access to millions of books, websites, audio recordings, videos, images, and software programs, with the aim of preserving and providing universal access to knowledge including now-defunct genealogy websites from the 1990s and 2000s.
