Uncovering the Story of the Terrell House, a Historic Bed & Breakfast

Archival research to uncover the history of the Stanley School and its campus and buildings in Burnsville, North Carolina. Dating from the early 1900s, the former school is now the site of a historic bed and breakfast, the Terrell House. Our client hoped to learn more about the history of their home and B&B to provide historical context for guests through exhibits and visual materials and also apply for historic building designation. Research using the Nettie Fowler McCormick papers at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Digital images of correspondence, building plans and accounting books. Additional research using newspaper databases to verify construction dates and architectural firms involved in various construction projects. This was a long-term project with no specific deadline.
